The Central HS band captured their 2nd National Championship becoming the 2018 High Stepping Nationals: Grand National Champion. High Stepping Nationals is a national high school marching band competition geared solely towards bands that march using the show style. The 2018 competition was held on the campus of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. The Mighty Warrior Band defeated bands from Georgia, Alabama, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The competition has two rounds. First is the preliminary round in which bands compete against similar-sized bands for division awards. After the completion of the preliminary round. The top scoring bands, regardless of size, are selected for the final round to compete for the Grand National Championship. In the preliminary round, Central won the best overall band in the AAAA division as well as 1st place Drumline, 1st place Drum Major, 1st place Marching, 2nd place Flags, 2nd place Music, and 2nd place General Effect. In the final round the Memphis Central High School Marching Band won the Grand National Championship as well as 1st place overall Drum Major and Marching as well as 2nd place Drumline, 2nd place Music, and 3rd place Flags.
